The 2026 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year race is shaping up to be a compelling battle between explosive playmakers, with Carnell Tate, Denzel Boston, and Jeremiyah Love emerging as the leading contenders. With six weeks in the books, the landscape is shifting.
Evaluating this race requires looking beyond production to measure consistency, opportunity, scoring impact, and each rookie's overall weight within their team's offense.
1. Carnell Tate, WR: The Rookie Receiver Who Has Taken Over the Race
Receptions: 29 Receiving Yards: 344 Receiving Touchdowns: 1 Average: 57.3 yards per game
Tate tops the rankings this week. His ability to generate consistent receiving volume for the Titans gives him a good chance towards becoming the class's premier offensive rookie. Tate's opportunity to separtae himself from the pack comes down to turning his steady receiving volume into paydirt. Another high-yardage performance coupled with trips to the end zone will solidify his hold on the top spot.
2. Denzel Boston, WR: The Big-Play Threat Refusing to Fall Behind
Receptions: 17 Receiving Yards: 345 Receiving Touchdowns: 3 Average: 57.5 yards per game
Boston has routinely demonstrated that he can manufacture explosive plays and find the end zone. His three touchdowns gives him a vital scoring advantage over Tate. The ongoing challenge is maintaining that efficiency and big-play rate while keeping his place near the top of the rookie receiving leaderboard.
3. Jeremiyah Love, RB: The Ground Game Candidate With Touchdown Upside
Rushing: 67 carries, 245 yards Rushing Average: 3.7 yards per carry Receiving: 11 catches, 36 yards
Love offers distinct multi-phase profile for the award. As a dynamic running back, he accumulates rushing yards, contributes out of the backfield as a receiver, and punches in touchdowns without depending strictly on a high-volume passing game. Love's versatility gives him a better opportunity to win the award. Cleaner rushing efficiency and heightened red-zone usage will help him close on the leading wideouts.
4. Germie Bernard, WR: Pittsburgh Steelers: A Quiet Contender With Room to Climb
Receptions: 24 Receiving Yards: 227 Receiving Touchdowns: 1 Average: 28.5 yards per game
Bernard remains a player to watch closely as a potential riser. His steady pass-catching production has kept him relevant, despite needing a stronger statistical spike to challenge the top tier. Bernard could use an influx of targets, deeper gains, or multi-touchdown outings to build real momentum. A single breakout game could radically change his ballot standing.
5. Jalon Daniels, QB: Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Quarterback Wild Card Who Could shake Up the Ballot
Passing: 60 completions on 98 attempts Passing Yards: 501 Passing Touchdowns: 3
Daniels brings a unique dual-threat statistical profile to the race. His passing arm and rushing prowess gives him multiple avenues to rack up yards, though a smaller sample size makes his evaluation unique. Daniels has averaged an impressive 156 total yards per game across his appearances. His path up the rankings relies entirely on sustained health, improved passing efficiency, and added scores.
Biggest Riser: Who Is Gaining Ground?
Comparing recent production trends highlights Boston as a player gaining crucial ground. While early weeks relied on splash plays, Boston's expanding target share and consistent red-zone trust from the coaching staff have elevated his floor.
The Dark Horse: Who Could Crash the Top Five?
KC Concepcion remains the ultimate dark horse candidate to crash the top five. Possessing an increasing opportunity profile in the passing game, Concepcion's season line sits at 22 catches for 186 yards. If he can turn that intermediate involvement into more explosive gains and break his touchdown drought, he has the skill set to enter the mainstream award conversation.
Biggest Concern: Which Contender Needs a Response?
Love carries the most pressing concerns heading toward the midpoint of the season. While his volume is secure, his 3.7 yards-per-carry average indicates that he is frequently hitting walls behind his line. To stay competitive with elite receiver production, Love needs more explosive runs and better efficiency to maximize his touches.
Conclusion: Who Is Best Positioned to Win?
Tate holds the current No. 1 spot by virtue of the ascent to the top of the award market, but Boston's scoring efficiency and Love's all-purpose utility will keep this race one to keep an eye on. The next few weeks will dictate whether Tate can protect his lead or if the emerging challenger will deliver the definitive performance of the 2026 season.
