The Punjab government has approved three major healthcare projects worth more than Rs. 37 billion in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Layyah.
Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique announced the development, saying the projects were approved under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to improve healthcare facilities across the province.
The projects include the Nawaz Sharif Medical District in Lahore, which will feature the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Pediatric Health Sciences at a cost of over Rs. 17.25 billion.
Another Rs. 15.39 billion will be spent on the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology in Gujranwala, while more than Rs. 4.4 billion has been allocated for establishing a medical college in Layyah.
According to the health minister, the Punjab Health Secretary has granted administrative approval for all three projects. The Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP) and the Communication and Works (C&W) Department will oversee their execution.
Rafique said the provincial government was making major investments in modern healthcare infrastructure to provide better medical services to the public.
He added that a network of new hospitals was being developed across Punjab to improve access to quality healthcare.
