The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul has launched an investigation review panel that brings together multiple divisions to examine major cases.
The station said on the 13th that it had formed the panel with Station Chief Yeo Jin-yong as chair. The heads of the first, second and third investigation divisions serve as standing members, while the heads of the first and second criminal divisions, the women and juvenile division and the traffic division participate as non-standing members.
Previously, cases moved from the assigned investigator to a team leader and division head before reaching the station chief. Under the new system, other division heads will also join discussions on the progress of major investigations. The panel will review cases filed with the station that involve a large number of victims or carry wide social impact.
The aim is to review cases internally and minimize gaps in investigations until investigation review officers are assigned under the revised Criminal Procedure Act. A police official said the station will use the panel to improve the thoroughness of its investigations and build trust in police work so that residents do not have to worry about police investigative capabilities.
