President Petr Pavel is due to discuss European security and support for Ukraine at the Berlin Global Dialogue conference on Thursday. The Czech head of state, who is on a two-day visit to Germany, met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Wednesday.
The discussion will focus on how European countries can share responsibility for defence, maintain support for Ukraine and strengthen cooperation within NATO and the European Union. Merz told the conference on Wednesday that Russian hybrid attacks continued to threaten Germany’s security and prosperity.
After meeting Merz, Pavel said he disagreed with the view that stopping aid to Ukraine would reduce tensions. He warned that such a move would instead encourage Russia. Germany is one of Ukraine’s largest providers of military assistance.
