Huawei used GOSIM Shenzhen 2026 on October 16 to describe the developer tooling that now sits on top of its open CANN stack, rather than to restate the earlier open-sourcing pledge. Lixin Shao, general manager of Huawei's CANN business, framed CANN as the heterogeneous compute layer between AI frameworks and Ascend processors, and walked through the community services meant to turn that layer into something students and engineers can actually practice on.
English coverage in 2025 already noted Huawei's plan to open-source CANN broadly. The new detail is the working base. CANNLab offers free online cloud environments for Ascend C, PyPTO and related operator work, plus model deployment checks and tuning. CANNBot is presented as a multi-agent assistant that can generate code, troubleshoot on its own, close the repair loop and run end-to-end tuning. CANNJudge adds online challenge boards so learners can practice against scored tasks, while CANN-Learning-Hub bundles tutorials and interactive examples from beginner through advanced operator work.
Governance is organized around a technical steering committee, a project management committee and special interest groups. Industry SIGs are already listed for areas such as intelligent transportation, embodied intelligence, power and life sciences, with related code repositories opened for joint work between universities, labs and companies. CANN-Samples ships optimization examples for training and inference, including single-card paths aimed at limited-compute classrooms.
Huawei ties the pieces into a learn-practice-compete-certify-hire path that tries to put real operator and model tasks in front of students before they leave campus. Ecosystem partners are described as already hiring strong community contributors, with external referral channels still being built. None of that claims the entire CANN codebase is finished as open source; it describes the services and governance around the parts that are open today.
For Ascend developers, the practical news is a free cloud lab, an agent helper for operator work and a public scoreboard, announced together as one developer base. Earlier English reports covered the open-source direction; this talk is about the tools meant to make that direction usable day to day.
