PETALING JAYA: Former Yayasan Bank Rakyat chairman Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin has refused to accept a notice of asset declaration from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman said Nazir refused to accept the notice because he had applied to the Kuala Lumpur High Court for an injunction to prevent enforcement of the order under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009.
A source said this took place at MACC’s headquarters today, where Nazir, his wife and his assistant were summoned to assist in investigations into misappropriation and abuse of power in an investment deal worth about RM10 million.
The source said the wife and assistant had their statements recorded, while Nazir was served the notice.
Halim said recording the statements of Nazir’s wife and assistant took an hour and a half.
“They arrived at MACC at about 11am. Nazir’s wife and assistant were released at about 1.15pm,” he said. He did not specify if and when Nazir was released.
On Oct 8, Nazir accused MACC of abusing its powers in its probe into the alleged misappropriation of RM10 million invested by Yayasan Bank Rakyat.
He said MACC’s raids on his residence and that of his brother Mubarak Hussin, as well as his questioning during the seven days he was remanded, were conducted unprofessionally.
He added that while the commission had previously investigated the investment in 2022, he understood that no wrongdoing or misappropriation had been identified.
