By Salisu Hamisu Ali — A High Court in Kano state has ordered the Police to investigate allegations of criminal conspiracy, assault, intimidation and unlawful demolition of property against Muazu Abdullahi-Gwarzo, member representing Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency at the the House of Representatives.
The order followed a complaint by one Sulaiman Isah, a resident of Gwarzo Local Government, accusing Mr Gwarzo, popularly known as Baban Gandu of demolishing his building, assaulting him and threatening his life over for purchasing a property.
A letter dated October 19, 2026, from the Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Kano, addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zonal Intelligence Department, requested an investigation into the allegations under section 107(4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, ACJL, 2019.
A copy of the said letter, sighted by DAILY NIGERIAN, stated that the request was made following a complaint lodged by A.S. Tunkuyau & Associates, a law firm representing Mr Isah, and on the directive of the presiding Chief Magistrate of Court No. 5, Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano.
According to the petition filed by Mr Isah, the incident occurred on October 16, 2026, at about 11pm, when he returned from Karaye Local Government area to his residence at Danbare quarters in Kumbotso Local Government, only to see a group of people demolishing an uncompleted building he had recently purchased at the presence of the embattled lawmaker.
The petition added that Mr Isah then approached the people and asked them to stop the demolition and even showed the title of the property to them but they ignored him.
The petition further stated that ” when Isah brought out his mobile phone to record the demolition to preserve evidence and facilitate a report to law enforcement authorities, the lawmaker allegedly became angry and instructed the individuals to assault him and seize his phone.
“Gwarzo allegedly made the statement, “Ku kwace wayar, ku daka min shi,” which translates to an instruction to seize the phone and beat him up,” part of the petition said.
The petition identified four individuals allegedly involved in the incident as Musa Danfulani, Yahya Dankwangila, Sa’adu Abdullahi and Abubakar Magini.
It alleged that “the individuals descended on Isah and beat him repeatedly on different parts of his body, leaving him with bruises and causing him considerable distress and fear for his safety”.
The petitioners said the complainant believed he could have lost his life but for the intervention of neighbours who came to his rescue.
They also expressed concern that failure to address the matter promptly could lead to retaliatory violence and threaten peace and security in the neighbourhood.
The lawyers therefore urged the Police to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the matter, stressing that Mr Gwarzo’s position as a serving member of the House of Representatives should not exempt him from facing the law.
They also called on the authorities concerned to ensure that no individual obstructs the investigation or intimidates the complainant and potential witnesses.
Speaking to DAILY NIGERIAN, Mr Isah said the dispute began after he purchased the property, which he claimed was previously belong to the lawmaker, through a chain of buyers.
He said Mr Gwarzo became displeased after learning about the transaction and questioned why he had purchased what the lawmaker allegedly described as worthless land.
According to Mr Isah, he contacted the people who sold him the property, who confirmed that they had acquired it from Mr Gwarzo and provided documents and evidence of financial transactions.
“I was offered the property for sale, and i asked whether Baban Gandu had sold it. I was told that he sold it to one Alhaji Sani, who then sold it to Muhammadu, from whom i eventually bought. I was given the documents after payment,” he said.
Mr Isah said to his surprise, the lawmaker later denied selling the property and directed him to return to the people from whom he had purchased it.
“They confirmed to me that they bought the property from Baban Gandu and showed me the documents and evidence of the money transfers,” he added.
Recounting the alleged demolition, Isah said he came out of his residence after hearing unusual movements and saw the lawmaker and some individuals demolishing the building.
He said he began recording the incident but later switched off his phone.
“When I questioned them, Baban Gandu ordered them to collect my phone and smash it. But I resisted them, and they started beating me until our neighbour, identified as Alkali, rescued me from them,” he alleged.
Isah further alleged that one of the individuals involved threatened to kill him.
He also claimed that the lawmaker contacted one of the agents who facilitated the property sale on Monday, allegedly insulted him and threatened to make the complainant disappear.
All efforts to get Mr Gwarzo’s reaction to the allegations failed as he neither answer the calls of our correspondent nor respond to a text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
