HOLLYWOOD star Richard Gere is looking to build a holiday home in a wealthy town on Spain’s Galicia coast.
Gere’s wife is Alejandra Silva and her family lives in A Coruña, some 12 kilometres inland from the municipality of Oleiros where the couple plan to buy some land to construct a property.
Oleiros has the highest per head income in the Galicia region and is home to Amancio Ortega and his daughter Marta, who are the principle shareholders of the Inditex fashion group.

The town is in 45th place in the ranking of the municipalities with the highest per capita income in Spain.
It has 28 beaches on its coast with an extensive portfolio of cultural and leisure attractions, making it popular with both tourists and residents.
Gere and Silva decided in 2024 to buy a property in the upmarket district of La Moraleja district of Madrid and use it as their main residence after moving from the United States.
The couple do however return to America so that their two children can go to summer school and for Gere’s professional commitments.
Since settling in Spain, Gere has embraced a quieter routine away from Hollywood.
He has frequently been spotted running errands, walking around Madrid and supporting charitable organisations.
Gere has praised the country’s relaxed pace, saying he admires the joyful spirit of its people and believes Spaniards place greater value on enjoying life’s simple moments with less stress than many Americans.
The actor has also referenced Galicia and the connection it has with Alejandra.
“My wife comes from a very special place in Spain. Galicia. When she talks about Galicia it is as if she came from the paradise of paradises, and everything good seems to come from there,” he said in a Spanish TV interview.
“It’s very beautiful, very different from the south. It looks like the place where I grew up because there are a lot of trees and it’s very green. I love it.”
During one red carpet appearance, Gere jokingly said that he had become an honorary Galician after being told many locals already considered him one of their own.
