Slovenian MEP Vladimir Prebilic said Parliament Speaker and acting President Ana Brnabic’s letter questioning the impartiality of European Parliament election observers undermined trust in the Serbian leadership not European institutions.

Prebilic told Belgrade-based Insajder TV that the Serbian public should not be blamed for Brnabic’s letter, which lashed out at the EP observer delegation and its leader Andreas Schieder MEP for his alleged bias at earlier elections.
The European Parliament has said it will not change the delegation and that the mission will monitor the elections in line with international methodology.
Prebilic said election observers should avoid statements that could be interpreted as biased, but added that individual comments could not determine the mission's overall assessment. The key issue, he said, was whether the elections were held in a fair environment and whether all participants had equal conditions to compete.
He added that Serbia's invitation to the European Parliament to observe the elections was welcome, warning that not inviting it would have further raised doubts about the electoral process and harmed relations with European institutions.
