KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 200,000 homes with a combined gross development value (GDV) of RM158 billion have been rescued from stalled, delayed or abandoned housing developments since 2023, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said 1,726 troubled private housing projects had been revived or resolved as at August 2026, following the formation of a special task force to tackle sick and abandoned developments.

Of these, 1,542 projects involving 163,621 housing units and valued at RM115.74 billion had been completed and issued with Certificates of Completion and Compliance (CCC).
Another 147 projects, covering 29,900 homes with a GDV of RM40.92 billion, had returned to normal progress after being classified as sick projects.
A further 37 abandoned developments involving 6,122 units and worth RM1.5 billion had also been revived or resolved.
Nga said the Housing and Local Government Ministry remained committed to addressing troubled housing developments, highlighting the establishment of the Task Force on Sick and Abandoned Private Housing Projects in 2023.
He said efforts to resolve abandoned developments included completing construction or implementing other solutions that would benefit affected homebuyers.
The issue required sustained attention, he added, given the impact on purchasers left waiting for their homes.
Nga said the government had introduced several measures under the Madani Housing Reform initiative, including the Housing Integrated Management System (HIMS) and measures involving Housing Development Accounts (HDA), to improve monitoring and oversight of housing projects.
Further initiatives to safeguard the rights and interests of all parties involved were expected to be introduced before the end of this year, he said.
The government aims to eliminate sick and abandoned housing projects nationwide by 2030 as part of broader efforts to strengthen the housing sector and protect homebuyers.
Nga also announced that an option-to-purchase and option-to-build scheme was expected to be introduced next month as part of the ministry’s continuing housing reforms.
He expressed confidence that the proposed scheme, together with existing measures, would contribute towards achieving the government’s 2030 target.
