Indiana football fans name offensive, defensive players of the game against Nebraska

Indiana football beat Nebraska 20-17 this past Saturday thanks to strong effort up and down the roster, but some Hoosiers really stepped up to help move this year’s team to 6-0.

The program always named its offensive, defensive and special teams players of the game after wins, with Nick Marsh and Isaiah Jones earning the first two honors this week, but we figured we’d give fans a chance to try their hand at doing so over in The Feed, providing a handful of names based on the game along with an “other” if fans believe someone who went unnamed deserves the nod instead.

Here’s who Hoosier fans picked this week:

Offensive Player of the Game: WR Nick Marsh

Marsh played his best game as a receiver in an Indiana uniform on Saturday, hauling in six receptions for 187 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help seal the win.

The first touchdown came on a 75-yard catch and run early in the fourth quarter. Nebraska quarterback Anthony Colandrea had just surged into the endzone to make it a 17-6 ballgame before Hoover found Marsh over the middle on a quick read that he took all the way to the house, making the score 17-13. The second came on a similar play with Marsh wide open on fourth down for the ultimately final score of 20-17 in favor of the Hoosiers.

Defensive Player of the Game: DL Tobi Osunsanmi

Osunsanmi finished with four tackles and a sack, but that lone sack was the biggest play of the game on defense. Facing a 4th and 10 on the verge of entering Indiana territory, Colandrea dropped back to pass before Osunsanmi came flying in to bring him to the turf and reclaim possession for the Hoosiers.
