Raila Odinga Junior has publicly declared his backing for President William Ruto's re-election campaign while reaffirming his loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), positioning himself firmly within the party's broad-based arrangement with Kenya Kwanza.
Junior said he intended to contest the Kibra parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket while simultaneously canvassing support for Dr Ruto across the country.
"I will stick with ODM to the end and will marshal support for President Ruto's re-election countrywide as I also seek the Kibra MP seat on an ODM ticket," he said.
Junior invoked the legacy of his father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, to justify his political choices, framing the broad-based government as a directive that should be honoured by those who remain loyal to the ODM cause.
"Baba left us in the broad-based government, and that is where I will stay and rally our people to support the President's re-election. I'm with the President to the end," he added.
He also pledged allegiance to his uncle, ODM party leader Oburu Oginga, signalling alignment with a faction of the family that has backed continued cooperation with the Ruto administration.
Junior's declaration comes against the backdrop of a growing rift with his sister, who separately announced her intention to contest the Nairobi Senate seat, citing an expected vacancy as current Senator Edwin Sifuna eyes higher office. She stated she would run alongside young people, without specifying a party ticket.
While Junior acknowledged her right to contest, he urged her to go through ODM's internal nominations process and face Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang'o, who is also eyeing a seat under the party's banner. Junior had previously expressed support for Jalang'o's ambitions.
"I would like to tell Honourable Jalang'o congratulations for vying. As ODM, we are behind you," Junior said.
The siblings' competing ambitions extend beyond individual seats to a deeper disagreement over who should carry forward their father's political mantle and how the Odinga family ought to relate to the current administration.
2. The Standard
The family of former President Daniel arap Moi alleges that the five-acre parcel of land they own near the Eldoret State Lodge was seized due to political motivations aimed at frustrating them.
According to their lawyer, Moses Mutisya, armed officers entered the property, registered as Eldoret Municipality Block 8/62, and evicted workers, despite the family's nearly three decades of ownership.
Mutisya claims a senior government official ordered the evictions of properties adjacent to the presidential residence to construct security fences. He further suggests the family is being targeted politically rather than due to a legitimate land dispute.
“As a government official but more precisely if I’m not afraid to say, we were told that number one who was working around the vicinity and he directed the GSU commandant that all those people who are having properties next to the State House should be evicted as fast as possible so that they could construct fences and secure the area,” Mutisya said.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna pledged to stand with the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, condemning what he described as attacks against the veteran politician’s widow and children.
Speaking during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry (JTM) Church in Donholm, Embakasi East, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Sifuna said he and other people who remained loyal to Raila would continue supporting his family following his death.
“I want to tell the family of Raila Odinga that you know Baba’s true friends were with him. We who know that we were his friends will stand with the family of Baba Raila Amolo Odinga,” Sifuna said.
The senator criticised some leaders whom he accused of abandoning Raila’s family less than a year after his death, arguing that people who previously portrayed themselves as close allies had changed their political positions.
Sifuna said some of the people who had presented themselves as among Raila’s closest associates had since distanced themselves from his legacy.
He recalled that some leaders had previously portrayed their loyalty to Raila by suggesting they would not eat until he gave them permission to do so.
“Even before they finished dealing with Baba’s political children, they have now turned to the family of Baba Raila Amolo Odinga himself,” Sifuna said.

President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza brigade on Sunday took their two-term gospel to Nandi county, where he announced a number of development plans for the residents, among them connecting them to electricity and expanding roads in the region.
Addressing his supporters in Kapsabet town after a church service, Ruto continued his criticism of his political opponents, singling out Senator Sifuna, former CS Fred Matiang'i and Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
"Mr. Empty and Shinny Things, Mr. Yala and Ruaraka and Mr. 40, you have no agenda for this country. You are angry and planless. We will not allow you to divide Kenyans along ethnic lines," Ruto said.
