AMINGAON, Oct. 18: Police seized 30,000 suspected Yaba tablets, with an estimated street value of Rs 7.5 crore, at Amingaon in Assam’s Kamrup district and arrested a 31-year-old man from Goalpara in connection with the consignment.
The tablets, weighing approximately 3 kg excluding packaging, were intercepted while being transported to a district in Lower Assam, police sources said.
The seized narcotics have an estimated value of Rs 4.5 crore according to the CID valuation, while their street value has been pegged at Rs 7.5 crore.
Acting on specific intelligence that a suspected narcotics courier would transport the consignment by switching public transport, police intercepted the man at Amingaon.
The tablets were recovered from a red-coloured shoulder bag he was carrying.
The accused was identified as Raj Ali (31), son of Md Rahim Ali, a resident of Paikan Part II village under Krishnai Police Station in Goalpara district.
The operation was led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Kamrup.
Police said legal proceedings were being initiated in connection with the seizure.
The recovery comes amid efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the movement of narcotics through Assam, particularly consignments being transported to different parts of the state.
