The Western Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has launched a drug education and sensitisation campaign targeting newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students to raise awareness of the dangers of drug use.
The initiative seeks to equip students with accurate information to help them make responsible decisions as they adjust to the academic and social demands of senior high school.
As part of the campaign, the Commission engaged students of Diabene Senior High School, educating them on the risks associated with drug use, the influence of peer pressure, and the importance of safeguarding their health, education, and future aspirations.
The Commission is focusing on students at the early stages of their SHS education, recognising that the period presents an opportunity to build resilience against negative influences and encourage healthy lifestyles.
The campaign forms part of NACOC’s preventive approach to tackling substance abuse, with emphasis on educating young people before they are exposed to its potential consequences.
The Western Regional Command says the sensitisation exercise will be extended to other educational institutions across the region, with school authorities and relevant stakeholders expected to play a role in promoting a safer and healthier learning environment.
