For those without standard NBA contracts, the preseason is an opportunity for players to prove themselves worthy of playing time at the highest level. Former Golden State Warriors center and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman is doing just that, playing for the defending champion New York Knicks.
Currently on an Exhibit 9 deal with New York, Wiseman turned in his strongest preseason game Tuesday night, posting 18 points in 24 minutes on 7-for-8 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds. With one open roster spot remaining, Wiseman is putting himself in position to make the Knicks' opening night roster. Having lost Mitchell Robinson in free agency, Wiseman may become a valuable depth addition behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond.
After playing 60 games with the Warriors to begin his career, the former Memphis center has made just five NBA appearances in the past two seasons.
