Beena Joseph from Payyanur in Keralam had applied to the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on October 6 for a correction in the birth certificate of her son, who is now in class 10.
When she called the MCC’s Birth and Death Cell to know the status of her application on Tuesday, the MCC staff told her about the four-day drive starting on Wednesday to clear pending applications related to birth and death certificates.
Ms. Joseph came with her daughter on Wednesday morning to the MCC and gave details of her application. Within 30 minutes, MCC personnel completed the processing of the application and issued her the corrected birth certificate.
Similarly, Charan M.P. from Hassan also received corrected birth certificates for his daughters — Yashashwini and Yashwika — who were born at the Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru in 2021 and 2023, respectively. He had applied for a correction on September 3, and it was pending as the staff had been deputed for Special Intensive Revision.
Retired bank official K.G. Hegde from Urwa read about the drive in the newspaper, used the link, and booked the 10:30 a.m. time slot. He met the MCC staff and submitted his application for the correction of details on a relative’s birth certificate. “I am happy it was processed quickly and I got the new certificate within 10 minutes,” Mr. Hegde said in appreciation of the MCC’s initiative.
On Tuesday, MCC Deputy Commissioner (Administration) issued statement about the drive being held between Wednesday and Saturday. The official asked applicants to access the website http://slotbooking.karnatakasmartcity.in and book a time slot between 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. He assured of completing processing of the application within 30 minutes of the time slot and issuing the birth or death certificate.
An MCC official overseeing the process said around 500 applications filed between July 1 and September 30 have been taken up for clearance during the drive. The official added that in the last two months, the MCC cell has cleared nearly 4,000 applications, with priority being given to birth certificates for children studying in class 10.
