In an unprecedented political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Action Congress (AAC) has officially requested permission from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to hold the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In a formal letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by its National Secretary, Oshiokhai Ikpeminioghena, the opposition party also requested that the Presidency provide food, drinks, and other logistical support for attendees at the event scheduled for November 11, 2026.
The letter—titled “Request for Approval to Hold the Inauguration of the AAC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa and for Logistical Support”—argues that granting the venue and state hospitality would reflect true multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal access to public infrastructure.
“On behalf of the African Action Congress (AAC), I respectfully write to request approval to hold the inauguration ceremony of our Presidential Campaign Council on the 11th of November 2026 at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, in preparation for the 2027 general elections,” the letter read.
The party, whose presidential candidate is prominent activist and government critic Omoyele Sowore, contended that similar privileges and state hospitality have been extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for partisan engagements.
“In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for participants at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement,” the statement added.
Emphasizing that government seats and state resources are public assets funded by taxpayers, the AAC stated that approving the request would demonstrate the administration’s commitment to fairness and non-partisan public service.
“We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination,” the letter noted.
The AAC expressed optimism about receiving a favorable outcome and urged the Villa administration to outline any standard operating procedures or technical conditions required for approval.
No immediate response from the handlers of the Presidential Villa on the request as at the time of filing the report.
