Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Haaland netted his first after the half-hour mark with a brilliant header to put the Cityzens 2-1 ahead. He then scored the hosts’ third in the second half, latching onto Iliman Ndiaye’s pass.
Five minutes from time, the Norway international found the net again, but this time, his effort was ruled out for offside.
Haaland has now scored 100 non-penalty goals (npG) in 139 appearances— making him the fastest player to reach that milestone in the Premier League history.
The 26-year-old has scored in every league game since drawing blanks against Bournemouth in the opening weekend.
He leads the Premier League top-scorers’ chart with eight goals, three more than his closest challengers, Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak
Haaland delivered an all-round attacking performance against the Tractor Boys. He created the joint-most chances, recorded the highest top speed and attempted the most shots.
The Norwegian striker came with an injury scare but Enzo Maresca has allayed fears about his fitness.
Haaland also broke the record for the fastest player to reach Champions League 60 goals during City’s 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.
He also became the Cityzens’ outright top scorer in the competition, overtaking Sergio Aguero.
Haaland will be hoping to maintain his remarkable goalscoring form when Man City face a rejuvenated Aston Villa side in next Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
