Serie A strugglers Venezia have sacked coach Giovanni Stroppa after six straight league defeats.
Venezia confirmed Stroppa’s sacking Tuesday morning, hours after a 3-1 away defeat to Atalanta.
Venezia sack Stroppa: Official statement
“Venezia FC announces that Giovanni Stroppa has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach of the First Team,” the club said in a statement.
“Under his leadership, the Club secured promotion to Serie A in the 2025/26 season, finishing a Serie BKT campaign in which it played a leading role.
“The Club would like to thank Giovanni Stroppa and his staff for their work, professionalism, dedication and commitment throughout their time with the arancioneroverde.”

Venezia have lost all their opening six Serie A matches this season, scoring five goals and conceding 16, making them the league’s most-beaten defence.
Venezia won only one of eight matches across all competitions this season. On August 15, they beat Serie B side Modena 3-2 in the Coppa Italia first round, but then lost 2-1 to local rivals Udinese in the next round.
Stroppa had earned promotion from Serie B to Serie A in the 2025-26 campaign.

According to multiple sources, including Gazzetta and Sky Sport Italia, Paolo Zanetti and Davide Nicola are the leading candidates to replace him.
Stroppa is the fourth Serie A coach sacked in the 2026-27 season, after Fabio Grosso (Fiorentina), Domenico Tedesco (Bologna) and Carlos Cuesta (Parma).
Venezia’s next match is at home against Napoli on Saturday, October 17, with kick-off time at 15:00 CET.
