Dear Care and Feeding,
This is a rather dumb thing to write about, but my husband and I have twins who are going to be turning 6 in just over a month. “Parker” likes chocolate cake while “Peter” likes white cake, so naturally we have found ourselves in something of a cake war.
I think getting one of each kind of cake is the practical thing to do. If Parker and Peter hadn’t been twins, they would have had separate birthdays with separate cakes. My husband, however, is being a dick. He is against my idea and thinks it should be a coin toss for one cake. That would leave one of the boys stuck with a cake he doesn’t like, which I don’t think is fair. Considering how unreasonable my husband is being, I can order the two cakes and he can pound sand, right?

Dear Cake Fight,
Your husband is being ridiculous. Your sons didn’t ask to share a birthday, among the many other things I imagine they’ve had to share over the years. Two separate cakes is no big deal; there are even bakeries where you can get a cake that is half chocolate, half vanilla. Costco cakes are super affordable, and I got a chocolate one and a vanilla one for my daughter’s class once for less than $40. This is silly, your husband is being silly. Let them eat cake…the kind they prefer!

More Parenting Advice From Slate
I am in my early 30s and still unsure if I want kids. My partner feels the same. I am career-focused and have an active social life, so while I’ve always wanted a kid theoretically, it’s not something I feel willing to jump into if I’m not 100 percent sure. I think I would be perfectly fine if my life turns out to be childless. My mother, however, is absolutely dead-set on a grandkid.
