The Brandon Miller contract extension is official, with the Charlotte Hornets agreeing to a five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension with their forward, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday, citing Miller’s representatives AJ Vaynerchuk and Joey Middleton of VaynerSports.
The deal, finalized ahead of the October 19 deadline, averages roughly $41.8 million per year. At 23 and entering his fourth NBA season, Miller is now central to Charlotte’s long-term plans.

Performance That Justified the Commitment
Miller posted a strong 2025–26 season, averaging 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists across 65 games while shooting 38.3 percent from three-point range. His improved free-throw shooting and growing playmaking responsibilities highlighted his development into a primary offensive option.
He remains a valuable floor spacer with developing playmaking skills, although consistency and defensive impact remain areas for improvement.
Health is another consideration. Miller underwent surgery for left shoulder instability in May 2026, making his availability and long-term durability important factors in Charlotte’s investment. The Hornets are betting that continued development, better health, and complementary pieces such as Kon Knueppel will help Miller progress toward All-Star contention.
The Last Word
The extension gives Charlotte a clear long-term direction, but it also raises expectations. Miller has already shown he can produce at a high level offensively. The next step is becoming more consistent, creating for others, and making a greater impact on the defensive end. Those improvements will determine whether he can make the jump from promising young scorer to genuine franchise cornerstone.
At $209 million, Charlotte is betting that Miller’s best basketball is still ahead of him. If he continues to develop, the deal could give the Hornets exactly what they hoped for. If his growth stalls, the contract will become a much tougher commitment to justify.
Do you think the Hornets made the right decision giving Brandon Miller a five-year, $209 million extension, or does he still have more to prove before becoming a franchise cornerstone?
