The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Trade Modernisation Project Limited (TMPL) have completed a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) on newly acquired Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) scanners and an Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) in China, ahead of their deployment to Nigeria.
The two-week exercise took place from October 9 to 20, 2026, at the facility of Nuctech Company Limited, the equipment manufacturer.
It was led by Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Information, Communication Technology, and Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin.
The delegation of NCS and TMPL experts carried out a comprehensive technical verification of the scanners and tracking system, which are designed to improve cargo examination and enable real-time tracking from port to destination.
Adebakin described the FAT as a vital quality-assurance step to ensure the equipment meets contractual specifications and global standards.
She reaffirmed the commitment of Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to leveraging technology to facilitate trade, optimise revenue, and strengthen national security.
“The Nigeria Customs Service, under CGC Adeniyi’s leadership, is committed to deploying cutting-edge, fit-for-purpose technology that will fast-track cargo examination, reduce dwell time, enhance concealment detection, improve revenue generation, and facilitate trade,” she said.
Acting Comptroller of Non-Intrusive Inspection, Deputy Comptroller Umar Madugu, stated that the scanners and ECTS would significantly reduce 100 per cent physical examinations, minimise human contact, curb cargo diversion, and boost efficiency.
TMPL General Manager, Bamidele Chinedu, described the FAT as a major milestone, emphasizing that integrating the scanners with the tracking system is key to building a transparent, tech-driven Customs service.
Nuctech Project Manager, Niu Chao, pledged the company’s commitment to delivering world-class equipment, technical support, capacity building, and after-sales service.
Technical experts from NCS and TMPL were also trained on operating and maintaining the systems to ensure seamless deployment and sustainability in Nigeria.
