- The arrests follow an intelligence-led security operation launched in response to concerns over criminal activities in the scenic locations, which attract visitors and tourists.
Police in Limuru, Kiambu County, have arrested seven suspects linked to alleged gang rape and violent robbery incidents targeting residents and visitors around the area's tea plantations and the popular Braxton Tunnel.
The arrests follow an intelligence-led security operation launched in response to concerns over criminal activities in the scenic locations, which attract visitors and tourists.
According to Limuru OCPD Mary Njoki, the suspects are believed to be part of a criminal network accused of terrorising members of the public, particularly those visiting the tea-growing zones and Braxton Tunnel.
Njoki said the operation was aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals suspected of carrying out the attacks and restoring security in the affected areas.
The seven suspects are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to the alleged offences, including gang rape and robbery with violence, pending the conclusion of investigations and a decision by the prosecution.
Police have since intensified security operations in the area as detectives pursue additional leads linked to the reported incidents.
Residents and visitors have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies as investigations continue.
