Storms drenched south-east Queensland on Thursday, with some areas recording 250 millimetres by the end of the day.
And the weather bureau has warned a wet weather system over the region will make way for a fresh set of storms next week.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Sarah Scully said Caboolture and northern Brisbane suburbs, including Burpengary and Narangba, recorded up to 240 millimetres of rainfall over six hours on Thursday.
Overnight, storms continued to drench northern parts of the region, with the Sunshine Coast’s Mount Tinbeerwah recording 99 millimetres in the 12 hours to 6am on Friday.
Early on Friday, a storm developed over inland central Queensland, dropping 116 millimetres on Mount Panorama before 7am.
Around the Scenic Rim, up to 160 millimetres fell a day earlier.
Police reported 418 SES call-outs from 6.30am on Thursday to 4am on Friday, with two-thirds of the calls falling across Thursday morning and early afternoon.
Of these, 173 were in Moreton Bay, 75 were on the Sunshine Coast, 55 were in Ipswich, about 20 were in Logan and 13 were on the Gold Coast.
Swift-water rescue crews also responded to 16 stranded vehicles, including one abandoned in a central Caboolture intersection. But only two water-related incidents involved rescuing people from vehicles.
The storms sat inside a larger system that was forecast to bring set-in but lighter rainfall to the region from Monday.
Scully said the system would clear next week, but not before heavy thunderstorms hit the sodden region again.
The senior meteorologist said the system could produce supercell thunderstorms on Monday.
In the early hours of Friday morning, a team was called to Old Laidley Forest Hill Road, about 50 kilometres west of Ipswich, and freed one person trapped in their vehicle.
Earlier in the day, three swift-water crews rescued a man who became stranded on the roof of a vehicle on Caboolture River Road in Rocksberg, west of Caboolture.
A person in a flotation device was sent out to retrieve the man. He suffered minor injuries, and was taken in a stable condition to Caboolture Hospital.
After a storm developed over the Scenic Rim about noon, a man and woman became stranded by the storms while hiking the Lower Portals track at Mount Barney.
The pair were trapped on the route from about 3pm, and were winched out by a helicopter just before 6pm.
Shortly before midday, an ABC reporter and another bystander rescued a man from a sinking four-wheel-drive that stalled on flooded Buchanan Road at Morayfield.
Premier David Crisafulli told reporters on Thursday that it might be a rainy few days.
“All the work’s been done, and I know, overwhelmingly, people take this in their stride in Queensland,” he said, noting it was “typical storm-season rain”.
“This is an early storm season. We have … pre-positioned a number of assets, we’ve done a lot of preparation for both the fires and now heading into [the] early storm season.
“And I just ask people to make sure they do the right thing themselves and help a neighbour whenever is required.”
