The service is provided by GC Exchange Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, and gives hedge funds, asset managers, family offices and other firms that meet the professional client criteria access to calls and puts, booked through the GCEX OTC desk.
Clients request quotes directly from the GCEX OTC desk. Pricing is sourced from GCEX's Tier 1 liquidity providers. Positions, expiries, valuations and settlements are reported on XplorPortal, alongside clients' existing digital asset and FX activity.
At launch, the desk offers European-style, fiat-settled options with monthly expiries. Clients can use them to hedge existing digital asset exposure, sell options against assets they hold, or take positions where a buyer’s maximum loss is the premium paid. Sellers can lose more than the premium they receive.
Lars Holst, Founder and CEO, GCEX commented, “Our institutional clients have been asking for a regulated way to hedge and manage their digital asset exposure without onboarding to an exchange. Options booked through our OTC desk give them that, with the same regulated counterparty, onboarding and reporting they already use for digital asset spot and FX. We hedge every trade with our liquidity providers, so we don't take the other side of our clients' positions. We're starting with Bitcoin and Ethereum and will review the range in line with client demand.”
GCEX Group provides institutional and professional clients with access to deep liquidity in CFDs on digital assets and FX, alongside spot trading and conversion of digital assets, which continue to be provided as now by GC Exchange A/S, a Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorised under MiCA. The company also offers a comprehensive range of Forex brokerage and crypto-native technology solutions under its XplorDigital suite. XplorDigital features, its recent XplorDigital App, innovative plug-and-play solutions, ‘Crypto in a Box’ and ‘Broker in a Box’ which encompass technology-agnostic platforms addressing regulation while covering trusted custody solutions, staking solutions, arrangements for safeguarding client funds, tier 1 and deep liquidity, connectivity to leading price makers, advanced risk management, and innovative technology partnerships.
Headquartered in London, with multiple offices across the globe, GCEX operates through separately authorised entities. GC Exchange Limited is authorised and regulated by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority; GC Exchange A/S is authorised and regulated by the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and as a Currency Exchange and GC Exchange FZE is licensed as a Virtual Asset Service Provider by the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). Options are complex instruments and carry a high degree of risk. A buyer can lose the full premium paid, and a seller can incur losses that exceed the premium received. The service is available to eligible professional and institutional clients only.
