Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Monday said that his party will not accept political dictation from anyone, stressing that its politics revolves around the rights, peace, dignity and constitutional autonomy of the Pashtun nation rather than power, positions or privileges.
In a statement here Mian Iftikhar said the clear stance taken by ANP Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan amid the prevailing situation reflects the party’s century-long history, ideological commitment and struggle for Pashtun rights.
He said the ANP had always prioritised principles, ideology and democratic values and had never compromised on its national responsibilities.
The provincial president of ANP said no one should expect the ANP to follow anyone’s instructions in determining its political direction or position. He maintained that the party would remain committed to its principles and would not change its stance to gain power or please anyone.
Mian Iftikhar said the ANP’s history was marked by political sacrifices, imprisonment and hardships. He added that pressure, inducements and opposition had never forced the party to abandon its ideology.
He said the party believed in principled politics and democratic values, making any compromise on its national responsibilities for the sake of positions or privileges unacceptable.
The ANP leader identified Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s constitutional rights, the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, financial dues and lasting peace as fundamental rights of the Pashtun nation.
