Throughout the summer transfer window, many different players were linked with Liverpool.
The Anfield outfit were gearing up to be one of the busiest teams in the world but, in the end, they only managed to sign four new players.
Of course, these four players are all extremely likely to have a positive impact on the Reds but, since other areas of their squad aren't playing to the same standards, they're falling behind their title rivals.
Indeed, they were unbeaten across all competitions up until last Sunday when they lost 3-0 against Manchester City but, it was clear that certain areas of their squad still needed upgrading.
And, even though the winter transfer window is still some time away yet, many different links have started to emerge with the Reds now being pushed closer to signing one of their long-term targets.
Jose Mourinho not allowing Endrick to exit in January could push Liverpool closer to Yankuba Minteh
Throughout the summer, one of Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes' main goals was to replace Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian King mutually agreed to terminate his Liverpool contract a year early after enduring many fallings out with Arne Slot.
Whether it was because he was being left on the bench or played out of position, Salah and the Dutchman clashed one too many times which led to the 33-year-old wanting to exit.
This departure then led to many different right-wingers such as Yankuba Minteh, Ismaila Sarr and Endrick all being linked.
However, thanks to a fresh update from Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool's move for Minteh may have just moved closer to completion.
"José Mourinho stops any January exit for Endrick as he did when Aston Villa, AC Milan and AS Roma asked for the Brazilian in August," he wrote.
"Club + coach on the same page on Endrick, Vini Jr and more."
Yankuba Minteh would be a good signing for Liverpool if the price is right
This summer, Brighton were demanding more than £80 million for Minteh.
The 22-year-old may have plenty of Premier League experience under his belt but, he's only managed to net nine Premier League goals over the last couple of years.
Throughout his entire career, he's bagged 27 across all competitions and has even given 20 assists to his team mates.
And, while his potential may be sky high, those statistics don't really warrant an £80 million transfer fee.
If the Reds can get him for cheaper than that then he could be worth a shot.
But, with how things have panned out for Liverpool over the last couple of years, it's clear that they're highly unlikely to get any good deals with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish even saying that the Reds' bank balance made him drive up his price for Sarr.
Here's hoping that, at some point in the near future, Liverpool figure out who they want their next right-winger to be.
