The High Election Committee in Upper Nile State has commenced recruiting staff for various positions as part of the ongoing preparations for the general elections scheduled for 22 December.
On 19 October, the committee announced its intention to recruit an Election Administration Officer for the state, 12 election administration staff for the various geographical constituencies, and a number of voter registration personnel to be deployed across the state’s constituencies.
Key requirements include holding an academic qualification—specifically a bachelor’s degree or a diploma—and proficiency in written English, among other criteria.
The Commission also encouraged women to apply. The deadline for the submission of applications is at 5 p.m. on24 October 2026.
Peter Mayom, the head of the High Election Committee for Upper Nile State, told Radio Tamazuj that even though they are moving ahead with recruitment, they face several challenges, primarily the insufficient time allotted for the volume of work that must be completed within a short period.
“Additionally, there are transportation difficulties for the commission’s staff, as Upper Nile State is vast and requires reliable means of travel to reach its various parts,” Mayom said. He further highlighted a shortage of personnel within the High Election Committee and requested that the National Election Commission provide additional staff in accordance with the commission’s organizational structure.
Meanwhile, John Chol, who said he is applying for the position of Elections Voter Center, told this publication that the recruitment process is straightforward but that the short notice poses challenges for applicants from far-flung areas.
“I encourage young people, especially women, to submit their applications so they may participate in the electoral process,” he said. “I urge the committee to uphold integrity and transparency in its operations to ensure the success of the elections.”
For his part, Yin Chan, an applicant, stated that the requirements are reasonable and that information has been effectively communicated to the public via radio broadcasts and the commission’s notice boards.
“The only challenge is the time constraint,” he said. “I encourage individuals with disabilities to join the commission’s workforce to enable them to participate in the electoral process.”
