GTA 6 is exactly a month away, and Rockstar has shown the game through extended gameplay footage as well as two trailers. The recent launch trailer was the latest addition, but a lot of details have surfaced through interviews, leaks, and more.
A long time ago, when GTA 6-related leaks started surfacing, and we’re talking about a year ago — the weapon wheel became a point of discussion. At the time, it was believed that Rockstar wanted a Red Dead Redemption 2-style weapon wheel for GTA 6, including a weapon wheel for the trunk of the car. Now we know that’s the direction Rockstar has gone with, but as it turns out, it was what they had to settle upon.
Journalist Jason Schreier recently released a massive story about the making of GTA 6. While that included a lot of information, there were some details that didn’t make it into the final piece. One of those pieces of information had to do with the weapon wheel in GTA 6. We’ve now seen what the weapon wheel looks like, and it became a point of contention among fans because of how “weird” it looked.
Schreier mentioned in his video that while the intention was to always have it be more grounded like Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR 2), they originally wanted a completely different interface. Rockstar developers “spent months if not years” to develop a different weapon system, including trays, webs, and other options, but couldn’t find anything that worked as well. So, they decided to settle with using the weapon wheel.
Being grounded like RDR 2 means players will not be able to carry a massive arsenal of weapons on them. It has been revealed that players will be able to carry a pistol, two long-range weapons, and a melee weapon. They will also be able to use the trunk of cars to store more weapons.
