Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Chuadanga district leaders have demanded an impartial investigation into alleged irregularities, corruption, nepotism and political favouritism in the appointment of fertiliser dealers in the district.
The demand was made at a press conference held at the party’s district office auditorium in Chuadanga on Wednesday (October 21).
Those present included Ruhul Amin, MP for Chuadanga-2, district Jamaat Ameer and member of the Central Majlis-e-Shura, and Advocate Masud Parvez Russell, MP for Chuadanga-1, along with party leaders and activists.
In a written statement, the leaders said 642 applications had been submitted in 2026 for 45 fertiliser dealerships across the district’s four upazilas. They alleged that political influence and favouritism had affected the recruitment process, potentially depriving qualified applicants of dealerships.
They called for an impartial investigation to establish whether applicants’ qualifications, business establishments, warehouses and financial capacity had been properly assessed and whether the prescribed guidelines had been followed. They also demanded an investigation into allegations of financial transactions or personal influence to secure dealerships, with legal action against those found responsible.
The party outlined eight demands, including the formation of an impartial investigation committee, verification of selected candidates’ qualifications, publication of the selection criteria and results, and an opportunity for applicants to submit complaints. It also called for action against those responsible if irregularities were established and, where necessary, interim measures within the scope of the law while the investigation was underway.
The written statement urged the district administration, Department of Agricultural Extension, Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant authorities to ensure transparency and accountability in the appointment process.
The leaders also called for dealers to be selected on the basis of merit, integrity and the ability to serve farmers, rather than political affiliation or personal influence. They stressed that farmers must receive fertiliser on time at government-fixed prices.
Also present at the press conference were district Jamaat Naib Ameer Maulana Azizur Rahman; district training secretary Ziaul Haque; social welfare secretary Altaf Hossain; Jibannagar Upazila Jamaat secretary Mahfuzur Rahman; former Alamdanga Upazila Jamaat Ameer Shafiul Alam Babul; Labour Welfare Federation president Kaimuddin Hirok; Chuadanga municipality Jamaat Ameer Advocate Hasibul Islam; Mostafa Kamal; and sports reporter M H Mostafa, among others. #EK
