America’s biggest investor Michael Burry, who predicted the popular US housing crash of 2008 has shared a concise list of life lessons covering everything from personal finance and relationships to parenting and charity.
In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) Burry posted a 10-point guide that combines investment principles with broader advice on living a fulfilling life. Topping the list, Burry urged people to continuously improve themselves, writing: "Never stop exercising or learning." Burry also talked about the importance of compounding, a concept which is associated with investing. "Manifest the power of compounding," Burry said, suggesting that small, consistent efforts can generate significant long-term benefits.
Advice on relationships and family
Apart from money and investing, Burry also highlighted the value of personal relationships and family. He has also asked the users to "accept compromise to begin relationships," underscoring the role of flexibility in building meaningful connections. He encouraged the people to have children and be responsible parents, writing: "Have kids and be a good parent."
Avoid unnecessary financial risks
Several of Burry's points focused on financial discipline.
He warned against gambling, stating simply: "Never gamble." He also offered a housing tip that reflects a conservative approach to personal finance: "Buy half the house you can afford." Another recommendation was, "If it flies or floats, rent it," a reference to expensive assets such as aircraft and boats that can be costly to own and maintain.
Be grateful and give back
Burry's final pieces of advice centred on gratitude and generosity. "Be thankful for and to all," he wrote, before concluding his list with: "Be charitable."
He also touched on art and spending habits, stating: "Art in the eye of the beholder is cheap," suggesting that personal appreciation matters more than price tags. The post offers a glimpse into the investing veteran's philosophy, blending financial prudence with personal development, family values and philanthropy.
