The Keralam government has issued orders constituting an ‘AgriStack Commissionerate’ under the State Agriculture department as part of implementing the AgriStack initiative in the State’s farm sector. The Director, Agriculture, will serve as the AgriStack Commissioner in the four-level AgriStack Commissionerate.
Implemented by the Union Agriculture Ministry under the Digital Agriculture Mission, ‘AgriStack’ will be made up of three core registries -- the Farmers Registry, the Crop Sown Registry, and the Geo-referenced Village Maps Registry. “It forms the digital foundation for delivering farmer-centric services, improving governance efficiency, and promoting innovation, with the objective of establishing a federated and unified digital ecosystem for the agriculture sector,” the State government said in an October 13 order.
In July this year, the State government had created a 11-member State AgriStack Data Governance Committee (SADGC) headed by the Chief Secretary to act as the institutional architecture for handling crucial data associated with the farm sector. The panel was created in accordance with the operational guidelines issued by the Union government to State and Union Territories in September 2025 for assuming full ownership of the AgriStack operational backbone under the ‘State Core Handover Support’ programme.
