Real Madrid have called for the immediate resignation of La Liga president Javier Tebas after he compared the club’s management and its television channel to propaganda methods associated with Nazi Germany’s propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbels.
The BBC reported that the dispute escalated after Tebas criticised Real Madrid’s communication strategy, prompting the Spanish club to describe his remarks as “deeply offensive” and “morally repugnant”.
Real Madrid have demanded that Tebas step down as head of La Liga and vice-president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF).
In a statement, the club said: “Real Madrid considers it absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious that someone holding two positions of utmost responsibility in Spanish football resorts to a comparison with the propaganda methods of the Nazi regime to discredit our club, its management and its television.”
Tebas made the comments in a lengthy post on X on Friday, accusing the club of repeatedly promoting its grievances and directing criticism towards perceived opponents.
“Real Madrid’s management directs an orchestra of mouthpieces and Real Madrid TV leads the singing,” he wrote.
He added: “Their score is always the same: select the plays that suit them, repeat the grievance, feed the suspicion, and point fingers at the enemies.
“That method recalls propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s minister of propaganda: systematic repetition, construction of an enemy, and subordination of facts to the narrative.”
Tebas later clarified that his comments referred to “those propaganda techniques” and “not with an ideology”.

However, Real Madrid rejected the explanation, arguing that it did not lessen what the club described as the “institutionally unworthy nature of his statements”.
The club further stated: “These statements constitute yet another episode in the repeated attacks by Javier Tebas against Real Madrid, its president and its media outlets.”

The latest confrontation follows previous disagreements between Tebas and Real Madrid over refereeing decisions and the club’s position on the proposed European Super League.
Last month, Tebas criticised Real Madrid after the club alleged there was a refereeing conspiracy against them.
He had also opposed Real Madrid and president Florentino Perez over their plans to join the European Super League in 2021.
In 2025, Tebas accused the club of having “lost their head” after Real Madrid submitted a formal complaint to the Spanish FA over officiating in the league.
