The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a man following an inquiry into allegations that he used the AI chatbot Claude to seek ideas related to killing his former girlfriend.
The agency said its Islamabad office registered a First Information Report (FIR) after examining alleged misuse of artificial intelligence and digital communication platforms. Investigators were looking into online statements that reportedly expressed an intention to harm the man’s former partner.
According to NCCIA’s statement issued on October 12, the case involves alleged murder-related requests made through Claude, an AI assistant developed by Anthropic. The allegations have not been established in court.
NCCIA Investigating Alleged Misuse of AI
The agency initially announced the registration of an FIR and subsequently took the suspect into custody. However, it has not publicly disclosed the specific messages examined, the suspect’s identity, or further evidence underlying the allegations.
It also remains unclear whether any concrete steps were taken beyond the alleged online statements. There is no confirmed evidence in the information released that Claude helped facilitate a violent act.
The NCCIA warned that AI tools and digital communication services should not be used for threats, intimidation, or other potentially criminal conduct. It said it would continue investigating emerging forms of cyber-enabled threats and pursue cases through legal procedures.
The incident brings renewed attention to how law enforcement agencies assess potentially threatening online communications involving generative AI. The case concerns the alleged actions and intentions of a user, while the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings will determine the legal outcome.
