Nyandarua Senator and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary General John Methu has claimed that some United Opposition principals may abandon the coalition’s pledge to field a single presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, October 11, Methu named Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as possible figures who could chart their own political paths.
Methu alleged that President William Ruto was using Nyoro to divide the opposition, claiming he had also received a similar offer from the President.
“When I heard him say he has a party, I couldn't believe my ears because it is he who told me that another party is a creation of William Ruto. This same offer of forming a party others were given. If I was to name moles, then I think the name Ndindi Nyoro will feature prominently,” Methu stated.

Methu also questioned the loyalty of Jubilee Party leader and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, suggesting he could also break away from the wider opposition.
He noted that Matiang’i and Nyoro were close friends who often held rallies together, arguing that if Nyoro was working with the government, Matiang’i could also be acting against the opposition.
“I cannot speak about Matiang’i because I thought I knew him very well. These days, I don't think I know him. If I say Ndindi Nyoro is a mole, what can I say about Matiang’i, and they are friends?” he added.
The move comes days after DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua alleged that some principals within the opposition are threatening to go their own way if they are not picked as the opposition flagbearers.
Following Gachagua’s remarks, some members of the public pointed fingers at Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of being the opposition figure most likely to break ranks.
However, Kalonzo, through his party, has denied the claims, maintaining that they are united with an aim of ensuring that President Ruto does not earn a second term in office.
During the Sunday interview, Methu also expressed confidence in Kalonzo, citing his support for Gachagua during the 2024 impeachment process despite their affiliation with different political factions.
“I can trust Kalonzo any minute. Gachagua's own people did not stand with Gachagua. It was very unfashionable to stand with us, but Kalonzo did. He was gaining nothing then, but he just chose to stand with us because he thought we were being treated unfairly. I trust him today, tomorrow and every day,” Methu added.
Matiang’i and Nyoro, however, have maintained that they are part of the wider opposition and will support whoever is selected as its single presidential candidate to face President Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Methu’s claims come days after Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni called on the party to reconsider its position in the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA), which is led by Kalonzo.
Kioni argued that Jubilee was not receiving the respect it deserved within the alliance and urged the party to reconsider its position and explore other political formations.
