Fans of the hit Netflix show will recognize this three-bedroom wormhole as the family home of Jonathan, Joyce, and Will Byers. In fact, the exterior was used as a filming location while the interiors were inspired by the series. Special attention has been given to sourcing gadgets and trinkets that capture 1980s nostalgia; there’s even a vintage hatchback in the yard for an Upside Down photoshoot.

Somewhat eerie yet surprisingly comfortable, this unique Airbnb was a morgue and funeral home before it was reincarnated as a vacation rental. Some guests report bumps in the night, but everyone checks out in the same manner they arrived. There’s a spirit box full of ghost-hunting equipment for the esoterically inclined; otherwise, you can stick to telling ghastly tales by candlelight.

Renting through Airbnb gets you a homely two-bedroom suite on the second floor with access to a spine-tingling unrestored wing. The host rents REM pods to those curious to contact with the other side — all resident spirits are said to be friendly — and also offers tours to restricted parts of the property.

The conversion of this 1862 church was a labor of love from the hosts, who kept the original stained glass windows and altar features in place. The addition of underfloor heating and a barrel sauna on the deck makes it a top pick for a fall or winter getaway. There’s a games loft upstairs, alongside a speakeasy that’s sure to get the whole group confessing their deepest, darkest secrets.
