A safari in Addo Elephant National Park does not necessarily have to come with a hefty accommodation bill.
South Africa’s third-largest national park has several accommodation options inside the park, ranging from basic campsites to safari tents, cabins and self-catering units.
For travellers trying to keep costs down, camping is by far the cheapest option, with a tent site from R462 per night and a caravan site from R487 per night under SANParks’ 2026/27 tariff.
At the other end of the budget-friendly options are safari tents and forest cabins, which offer a little more comfort while still keeping visitors inside the national park.
Addo’s main accommodation hub is the Addo Rest Camp, also known as Main Camp. SANParks says the camp has the majority of the park’s accommodation and activities, as well as a shop, restaurant, swimming pool and a floodlit waterhole with an underground hide.
Here are 10 of the cheapest accommodation options with published 2026/27 rates.

Note: The table is ranked by the published base rate for the 2026/27 tariff period. Rates are per unit/site per night rather than per person unless stated otherwise. Additional guests can attract extra charges. The 1% SANParks community fund is also added to accommodation reservations.
1. Tent site – from R462
For travellers who already have their own camping equipment, the standard tent site at Addo Rest Camp is the cheapest way to spend the night inside the park.
The 2026/27 tariff lists the powered tent sites at R462 per night during the shoulder season, which runs from 1 November 2026 to 5 April 2027.
The base rate covers two guests, with space for up to four people on the site. Additional adults and children are charged separately.
It’s also worth remembering that the accommodation price does not include the daily conservation fee.
2. Caravan site – from R487
Travelling with a caravan or camper? Addo’s powered caravan sites start at R487 per night.
The sites have a base occupancy of two people and can accommodate up to six people, with additional-person charges applying. This makes the caravan site particularly good value for families or groups who already have their own accommodation setup.
3. Safari tent – from R1 244
For travellers who want something more comfortable than camping, the safari tents at Addo Rest Camp start at R1 244 per night.
The units sleep two people and use communal facilities. They offer a middle ground between traditional camping and a fully equipped chalet, while still putting visitors inside the park.
4. Forest cabin – from R1 447
The forest cabins at Addo Rest Camp are another relatively affordable option. The 2026/27 rate starts at R1 447 per night.
The cabins have four single beds but a base occupancy of two people, and guests share communal kitchen facilities. Additional-person charges apply. This could make the cabins a useful option for small families or friends travelling together.
5. Chalet CH2 – from R1 676
The cheapest of Addo’s listed chalet options is the CH2, which starts at R1 676 per night.
It sleeps two people and has a mini-kitchen. For visitors who don’t want to camp but still want to keep their accommodation costs relatively low, this is one of the more straightforward options.
6. Spekboom tent – from R1 375
The Spekboom Tented Rest Camp offers a more secluded alternative to staying at Main Camp. Its two-person tents are listed at R1 375 per night for the 2026/27 tariff period.
The camp is located in the main game-viewing area and is designed for visitors who want a more rustic experience.
However, there is an important catch for safari enthusiasts. According to SANParks, guests staying at Spekboom cannot participate in the sunrise, sunset or night drives departing from Main Camp because the game-area gates are closed.
7. Langebos Huts – from R2 167
For something more unusual, the Langebos Huts are located in the Woody Cape section of Addo. The accommodation consists of two huts, each with two bedrooms, sleeping up to four people.
The 2026/27 tariff lists the rate at R2 167 per night.
SANParks describes the Woody Cape area as a forested section of the park where visitors can experience the Alexandria dune field and look out for species including bushbuck, duiker and bushpig.
8. Chalet CH2/4 – from R2 361
The CH2/4 chalet at Addo Rest Camp starts at R2 361 per night. The base occupancy is two people, with two single beds and a couch, and additional guests can be accommodated for an extra charge.
This is a more comfortable option for visitors who want a self-contained stay without moving into the park’s more expensive family accommodation.
9. Cottage CO2 – from R2 361
The two-sleeper CO2 cottage is also listed at R2 361 per night.
Unlike the camping and safari-tent options, the cottage gives visitors a more traditional self-catering accommodation experience. It’s located at Addo Rest Camp, meaning guests are close to the park’s main facilities and the famous floodlit waterhole.
10. Rondavel HL2 – from R2 361
The rondavels at Addo Rest Camp are another option at the R2 361 starting rate. The two-sleeper units have a communal kitchen and overlook the camp’s waterhole.
That location is a major attraction, particularly because the waterhole is floodlit at night, allowing visitors to watch for wildlife after dark.
Don’t forget the conservation fee
Accommodation is only part of the cost of an Addo Elephant National Park safari.
From 1 November 2026, the daily conservation fee for South African citizens and residents is R115 per adult and R57 per child.
SADC nationals pay R242 per adult and R121 per child, while the standard international rate is R565 per adult and R283 per child. The conservation fee is charged separately from accommodation.
For budget-conscious travellers, however, Addo’s ability to explore the park using your own vehicle can help keep the overall cost down. SANParks says self-drive game viewing is available during the park’s game-gate opening hours, with only the applicable conservation fee required for the self-drive activity.
