A group of female high school athletes competing in a cross country running meet in Camas, Washington, decided to forfeit the race to protest a biologically male student competing against them.
When the horn was blown to signal the start of the race, about half of the Camas High School students—about 12 out of 24—started casually walking instead of making any effort to run and seriously compete. They eventually even walked off-track.
The biological male athlete was running for the other team, Battle Ground High School. He started the school year in the boys’ division and switched to the girls’ division mid-year. As the New York Post points out, this is legal under the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, which is in charge of high school athletic competitions in the state.
That is not necessarily surprising, as Washington is one of the most liberal states in the Union.
A brief video of the cross-country running protest against transgender athlete participation in women’s sports was shared on the social media platform X by political commentator Brandi Kruse. There, it has received a lot of attention, garnering over 92,000 likes, 11,000 retweets, and 2,600 comments.

The New York Post has also talked to Kevin Burns, the father of one of the female athletes who chose to take part in the protest. He told the Post that he showed up to the cross-country meet with a protest sign, which prompted the security staff on site to ask him to leave. However, he refused.
