After the New York Jets snapped a three game losing streak last week with a tight 17 – 12 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Jets squandered a chance to gain some momentum when they lost this week to the New England Patriots 26 – 19.
This game was about missed opportunities. The Jets had opportunities to go up big on the Patriots early in the game, but they were stopped twice on fourth and short. At the end of the game the Jets had an opportunity to take advantage of a Patriots offensive line devastated by injuries, but the Jets defense not only failed to dominate that beat up line, they also folded with the game on the line as the Patriots ran the ball right down the Jets’ throats for a clock-chewing, game sealing scoring drive late in the fourth quarter. It was an embarrassing way to end an otherwise hard-fought game by the Jets. It was also a missed opportunity to get to .500 on the season and take over 2nd place in the AFC East.
The disappointing Jets performance left the Jets with a 2-4 record to start the season, in 3rd place in the AFC East. Now the Jets look to get back on the winning track as they come home to take on the Miami Dolphins in East Rutherford, New Jersey next Sunday. The Dolphins are coming off their bye week this week. They have had a rough start to the season, going 0-5 over their first five games. The Dolphins offense has struggled badly, scoring 13 or fewer points in four of their five games this season.
