Namibian diamonds are selling at almost four times the global average price, with one carat selling for N$5 696 (US$343.88 per carat). This is despite its relatively smaller production volumes.
The global average price is US$93.43, equivalent to N$1 548 per carat.
The 2025 Kimberley Process statistics show that Namibia produced 2.1 million carats of rough diamonds valued at US$721.5 million (N$11.95 billion).
The country also recorded higher average values per carat than several major diamond producers. Botswana averaged about N$2 115 per carat, Angola N$1 975, Russia N$1 432 and Canada N$1 048.
The figures show that Namibia’s diamond industry gets value from the quality and characteristics of its stones rather than competing with larger producers on volume alone.
Namibia Desert Diamonds (Namdia), which markets a portion of the country’s diamonds, achieved an average price of US$339.87 per carat (approximately N$5 630).
According to the figures provided, Namdia’s average was about 20% higher than Namibia’s overall average export price of US$282.54 per carat (approximately N$4 680).
Namibia exported 2.05 million carats of rough diamonds valued at US$578.5million (approximately N$9.58 billion). The exports were recorded across 176 Kimberley Process certificates.
The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme monitors international trade in rough diamonds and seeks to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the legitimate market.
Namibia also imported 70 716 carats of rough diamonds valued at US$62.65million (approximately N$1.04 billion).
The imports averaged US$885.98 per carat (about N$14 677) across 32 Kimberley Process certificates. This was higher than the average values recorded for domestic production and exports.
The higher import value per carat indicates that the imported diamonds had a higher average declared value.
