Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has matched Mohamed Salah’s Premier League appearance milestone among African players after featuring in Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday.
Iwobi’s appearance took his Premier League tally to 328, drawing him level with Liverpool forward Salah as the joint-second most-capped African player in the competition’s history.
Salah has accumulated 26,785 minutes in the Premier League, compared with Iwobi’s 22,898 minutes.
The Fulham midfielder could move into outright second place when the Cottagers travel to Aston Villa for their next league fixture, provided he features in the match.
Former Manchester City and Arsenal defender Kolo Toure holds the record with 353 Premier League appearances.
Iwobi featured for 73 minutes against Coventry as Fulham secured all three points through Oscar Bobb’s 80th-minute goal.
The Nigerian international contributed to Fulham’s performance with 60 touches and 51 passes, recording a passing accuracy of 86.3 per cent.
He also registered two key passes, three crosses and one shot during the encounter.
Defensively, Iwobi made one tackle before being substituted in the 73rd minute for Cesar Palacios.
The victory lifted Fulham to 13th place in the Premier League standings, with eight points from eight matches.
