Maputo Port will be equipped to handle ships measuring around 366 metres in length and with a capacity of up to 14,000 TEU. The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, will preside over the launch of the dredging works to deepen the port’s access channel at 2pm on Monday (12 October).
The works will enable the channel to accommodate vessels with draughts of close to 15 metres. Its width will increase from around 110 to 210 metres along straight sections, and from 150 to 295 metres at bends. The investment is being made by Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), the port concessionaire, and is linked to the extension of the concession contract until 2058.
Earlier, at 9am in his office, the Head of State received representatives of the National Organisation of Teachers – National Union of Teachers of Mozambique (ONP/SNPM), who greeted him on Mozambican Teachers’ Day.
