An inspection by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) revealed a case of water theft where water was being illegally drawn using an illegal pipeline connected ahead of the meter point.
The KWA has issued a notice to the consumer to remit ₹2.48 lakh as water charges and fine. The water utility also cut the water connection to the building where the theft was detected. A complaint has been registered at the Poojappura police station, the KWA said.
The theft came to light during an inspection in the PTP Sub Division limits in the capital city. The accused, Thankaraj, was found to have connected an illegal pipeline ahead of the meter point of the authorised connection for drawing water into a well. The building in question accommodates several shops and a lodge.
