Especially when using very compact laptops such as the recently reviewed Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 7 AMD with its 13-inch display, you sometimes simply wish you had more screen space. Portable external displays are an appealing option here, as they are very versatile. Lenovo offers just such an external monitor with the ThinkVision M16, whose 16-inch panel can significantly expand your workspace.
For just over €200, you get a very compact monitor with an integrated stand that can easily connect via a USB-C cable to practically any laptop with a USB-C port that supports video output. This gives you more room to work, or you can turn the screen toward colleagues or clients during meetings so they can also see the content. The controls are located on both sides of the stand, and there is a simple on-screen menu for adjusting settings. However, the buttons themselves are somewhat difficult to use, as they are recessed deep into the housing.
However, you should not set your expectations too high when it comes to image quality, as the monitor uses a relatively basic IPS display. The matte Full HD panel's brightness is just under 300 nits, and even the small sRGB color space is not fully covered (~70%). Color deviations are therefore also very high, making the screen unsuitable for photo editing.
Despite these drawbacks, the ThinkVision M16 performs reasonably well, and the included carrying case makes it easy to stow the screen in a backpack or briefcase. The Lenovo ThinkVision M16 is currently available on Amazon for €219.
