Winnie Odinga, the youngest daughter of former prime minister Raila Odinga, made a light-hearted but pointed remark directed at fellow Senate hopeful Jalang'o during a TikTok livestream on Saturday, October 17, telling the media personality and politician that he had already made enough money and should step back from the race.

Winnie appeared on a TikTok live, joining a grid of participants via video call. Visibly tired after a long day, she nonetheless engaged warmly with the hosts and addressed the subject of her Nairobi Senate ambitions with a playful tone.
Winnie claims Jalang'o is her uncle
Turning to the subject of her competition, Winnie revealed a family connection that, she said, prevents her from engaging in any direct confrontation with Jalang'o, also the incumbent Lang'ata MP.

"I don't know if you know that Jalang'o is my uncle. Where he comes from in Gem, just across, my mother's home is there. I've been telling him that because he's my uncle, I'm not going to fight you. I can't disrespect you, you're my uncle. But I know he's made money. Now that you've already made it, just go back and relax because we're not going to fight. I have too much respect to fight my uncle," she said.
The TikTok hosts backed her bid, declaring that Nairobi had already made up its mind on who should represent the county in the Senate.
Before signing off, Winnie thanked her hosts and lightheartedly acknowledged her unfamiliarity with the platform's features.
"I appreciate it. I'm sorry I'm so tired. I've had a long day. I'm just going to bed, but thank you for having me on the first TikTok live. I don't know what I've done here with the filters, but they're kind of cool," she said.
Winnie Odinga's senate declaration
Winnie publicly declared her interest in the Nairobi Senate seat on October 15, during the first anniversary of Raila's death, in an event held in Bondo.
Jalang'o had separately expressed interest in the same seat on the ODM party ticket and received backing from a section of politicians.
Winnie has not yet disclosed the party she intends to run under. She was previously associated with ODM, which is currently navigating significant internal turbulence following the ouster of former secretary general Edwin Sifuna.
Sifuna has since formed the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has received national recognition and is building considerable support.
