FOR YEARS, RECOVERY basically meant figuring out how to make your muscles hurt less after a hard workout. But there’s more to it than that. In this episode of Strong Talk, Men’s Health fitness director Ebenezer Samuel, CSCS, sits down with Therabody founder and chief wellness officer Jason Wersland, DC, and Pat Davidson, PhD, to talk about what’s really happening in your body when you recover.
They dive into the nervous system and why entering a parasympathetic, or “rest and digest,” state matters for recovery. They also talk about breathwork, why your phone might be keeping you stuck in a stressed-out state, and how recovery tools can help you relax. Wersland shares what he’s learned working with elite athletes and how those lessons shaped Therabody’s newest devices for the neck, back and face. Along the way, the conversation gets into a bigger question: What does it actually mean to recover?
