NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase Picture: Sheldon Creed Holds Narrow Lead as Championship Battle Heats Up
With four races remaining in the 2026 season, Sheldon Creed, Jesse Love and Corey Day are separated by just seven points at the top of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase standings. Justin Allgaier remains within striking distance as the championship battle heads to Phoenix Raceway.
The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship fight is shaping up to go down to the wire, and the latest results have put several drivers in position to make a run at the title.
After Corey Day won back-to-back races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Hendrick Motorsports rookie has moved into third place in the Chase standings. Sheldon Creed still leads the way, but his advantage has nearly disappeared with four races left on the schedule.
Jesse Love sits just two points behind Creed, while Day is only seven points off the lead. Justin Allgaier is another 15 points behind the leader, keeping the four-time race winner and former series champion firmly in the conversation.
With Phoenix, Talladega, Martinsville and Homestead-Miami still on the schedule, the championship picture could change dramatically before the season ends.

Sheldon Creed Still Leads, But the Pressure Is Building
Creed remains the championship leader heading into Phoenix, but his margin for error is shrinking.
The No. 00 Haas Factory Team Chevrolet driver has watched his advantage disappear as his closest challengers have delivered strong results. After Charlotte, Creed leads Love by just two points and Day by seven.
That leaves Creed with very little room for a bad finish. A strong run at Phoenix could help him rebuild some breathing room, but another difficult race could put him behind in the championship fight.
The good news for Creed is that he still controls his own championship position. The challenge will be maintaining consistency while competing against several drivers who have shown they can win races.
Jesse Love Is Right Behind the Leader
Love has put himself in an excellent position to challenge for the championship.
The Richard Childress Racing driver finished second at Charlotte after battling Day for the lead late in the race. Although he missed out on the victory, the result helped him close to within two points of Creed.
Love has been one of the most consistent contenders throughout the Chase, and his ability to stay near the front has kept him firmly in the title fight.
With Phoenix next, Love has an opportunity to take control of the standings. He will also need to balance the desire to win with the importance of avoiding a costly result as the championship approaches its final races.
Corey Day Is Becoming a Serious Championship Threat
Day might be the hottest driver in the series at the moment.
The Hendrick Motorsports rookie won at Las Vegas before following it up with another victory at Charlotte. His Charlotte win came after a three-wide move with 10 laps remaining, allowing him to take the lead and hold off Love to the finish.
Those consecutive victories have moved Day to third in the standings, just seven points behind Creed.
Even more impressive, Day has made up 85 points on the championship leader across the Las Vegas and Charlotte races. That kind of momentum makes him one of the most dangerous drivers in the field heading into the final four events.
If Day can keep producing results like these, the championship lead could be his before the season reaches Homestead.
Justin Allgaier Cannot Be Counted Out
Allgaier remains another major threat despite sitting 15 points behind Creed.
The JR Motorsports driver finished fourth at Charlotte after leading 54 laps and winning Stage 2. He had one of the strongest cars throughout much of the race but could not find enough speed after the final restart to get back into contention for the win.
Still, the result helped Allgaier gain 15 points on Creed, giving him a much-needed boost after a difficult weekend at Las Vegas.
Allgaier has the experience of winning a series championship and knows how to handle pressure late in the season. With four races remaining, he is close enough that one strong weekend could change the entire picture.
Carson Kvapil is also worth watching. He sits fifth, 40 points behind Creed, and will need a major points swing to move into the top four.
Remaining NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase Schedule
Four races remain in the 2026 championship battle. Each presents a different challenge, and the variety of tracks could make consistency just as important as outright speed.
| Date | Race | Track | Start time (ET) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct. 17 | Timberland PRO 200 | Phoenix Raceway | 7:30 p.m. |
| Oct. 24 | The Progress Group 250 | Talladega Superspeedway | 3:30 p.m. |
| Oct. 31 | NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase Race | Martinsville Speedway | 4 p.m. |
| Nov. 7 | NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Championship Race | Homestead-Miami Speedway | 5 p.m. |
All four races are scheduled to air on The CW.
Phoenix Raceway — October 17
Phoenix is the next opportunity for the championship contenders to make a statement. The one-mile oval rewards drivers who can manage tire wear, find the right lines and maintain speed over a long run.
A strong result could give Creed some breathing room, while Love, Day and Allgaier will be looking to take advantage of any opportunity to move into the lead.
Talladega Superspeedway — October 24
Talladega could be one of the most unpredictable races of the Chase.
Superspeedway racing leaves drivers vulnerable to late accidents, changing drafting partners and incidents beyond their control. A contender who escapes trouble and finishes near the front could gain valuable points, while a wreck could dramatically change the championship standings.
For drivers chasing Creed, this race offers an opportunity to make up ground, but it also carries significant risk.
Martinsville Speedway — October 31
The short track at Martinsville brings a different challenge, with tight racing, braking zones and heavy traffic making track position critical.
The ability to avoid trouble while maintaining pace will be important as the championship approaches its final race. Drivers who can stay out of trouble and execute on pit road could put themselves in position for a strong finish.
Homestead-Miami Speedway — November 7
Homestead-Miami will host the season finale and crown the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion.
Unlike the earlier rounds, there will be no opportunity to recover in a later race. The points picture entering Homestead will determine how aggressively the contenders need to race, but the championship will ultimately be decided by their performance on the track.
The driver who can combine speed, strategy and a clean race will have the best chance of leaving Florida with the title.
Who Has the Best Chance to Win the Championship?
Creed remains the driver to beat because he enters the final four races with the points lead. However, his advantage is small enough that he cannot afford to focus only on protecting his position.
Love is just two points behind and has been consistently competitive. Day has the strongest recent momentum after winning consecutive races, while Allgaier has the experience and pace to make another championship run.
The next two races could prove especially important. Phoenix offers a chance to build momentum, while Talladega presents the possibility of a major shake-up in the standings.
With the top four separated by just 15 points, the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship is far from decided.
Four races remain, and the battle for the title is only getting tighter.
