Things are going from bad to worse for the Philadelphia Eagles.
After suffering their third consecutive loss Sunday, Philadelphia received more troubling news. Running back Will Shipley could be sidelined for multiple weeks, adding another injury concern to a team already struggling to find consistency.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Shipley suffered a partial tear of his plantar fascia during Philadelphia's 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. The injury could keep the second year running back out for multiple weeks.
The news comes at a particularly difficult time for an Eagles team already dealing with significant injuries in its backfield.
Starting running back Saquon Barkley missed Sunday's game with a hamstring injury, while backup Tank Bigsby remains on injured reserve after suffering a core muscle injury that required surgery.
With both players unavailable, Shipley was given an opportunity to lead Philadelphia's rushing attack against Jacksonville. The former Clemson standout provided an early spark, scoring his first career regular-season touchdown on a short run in the second quarter.
However, his afternoon ended prematurely after he suffered a foot injury and was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Shipley finished with six rushing yards on five carries, but his departure left Philadelphia with even fewer options at running back. Dameon Pierce took over as the Eagles' primary ball carrier, while Carson Steele provided additional depth.
For a team that entered the season with championship aspirations, the growing list of injuries has become another obstacle in an already frustrating start.
Philadelphia opened the season with consecutive victories before dropping its next three games, falling to 2-3 following Sunday's loss.
The Eagles appeared to have an opportunity to escape London with a victory after Jake Elliott connected on a 48-yard field goal to give Philadelphia a 17-16 lead with eight seconds remaining. However, Jacksonville answered with a 53-yard kickoff return from Ameer Abdullah, setting up Cam Little's game-winning 57-yard field goal as time expired.
The loss highlighted several concerns for Philadelphia, which managed just 232 total yards against the Jaguars.
Now, with injuries continuing to affect the offense, the Eagles could be forced to make additional adjustments before their next matchup.
Shipley's injury is especially concerning because Philadelphia was already relying on him to help replace Barkley's production. The former Clemson running back entered the 2026 season behind Barkley and Bigsby on the depth chart but had gradually taken on a larger role as injuries mounted.
Through five games, Shipley has recorded 57 rushing yards and one touchdown on 20 carries, along with five receptions for 31 yards. Although those numbers may not jump off the page, his availability had become increasingly important for an offense searching for consistency.
Without Shipley, Philadelphia could be forced to lean more heavily on Pierce, who joined the organization after previously spending time with the Houston Texans. Pierce has starting experience in the NFL, but stepping into a larger role with limited preparation presents its own challenges.
The Eagles could also explore additional roster moves depending on the recovery timelines for Barkley and Shipley.

Philadelphia's injury concerns extend beyond the running back position.
Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Hollywood Brown were among several players ruled out of Sunday's game, further limiting the options available to quarterback Jalen Hurts.
For head coach Nick Sirianni, the challenge now becomes finding ways to keep Philadelphia's offense productive despite a growing list of injuries.
The Eagles still have time to turn their season around, but with three consecutive losses, their margin for error is getting smaller. As Philadelphia prepares for its upcoming matchup against the Carolina Panthers, the health of its running backs will be a major concern.
And if Shipley is forced to miss multiple weeks, the Eagles will have to find a way to overcome yet another setback as they look to get their season back on track.
