On Saturday evening, the USC football team suffered an embarrassing 24-7 road loss to Wisconsin. With the defeat, the Trojans dropped to 6-2 on the year and 3-2 in Big Ten play.
What did we learn from the game? Here are a few key takeaways:
Absolutely embarrassing
USC has had plenty of ugly losses under Lincoln Riley. But it is difficult to think of a more embarrassing performance than this. Plain and simple, this was an absolutely pathetic effort by the Trojans on all fronts.
Offense was a disaster
USC scored seven total points in the game. It was the fewest points scored in Riley’s head coaching career, and the fewest that the Trojans have put up in a game since 2018.
Could not run the ball
USC finished with negative seventeen yards rushing. Yes, you read that correctly. Negative seventeen.
Wisconsin is not even good!
The worst part of it all? Wisconsin is not even very good! The Badgers entered the game 4-2, with head coach Luke Fickell very much on the hot seat.
No coming back from this
It is pretty much impossible to see Riley surviving this. At this point, it feels like a matter of when, not if, the Trojans have a new head coach.
Up next
The road ahead does not get any easier, as USC will welcome Ohio State to the Coliseum next week. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Pacific time on NBC.
