Texas A&M (4-3, 1-3 SEC) enters Week 8 with momentum after shutting out The Citadel last Saturday afternoon and will now face No. 13 Alabama (5-2, 2-2 SEC) in Tuscaloosa for the first time since 2022. On paper, this looks like a "get right game" for the Crimson Tide, but given last weekend's chaos in SEC play, anything is possible.
Alabama's offense is reeling, totaling 201 yards, while sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell threw for just 147 yards and hasn't thrown for 200 yards in either loss to Georgia or Tennessee. Texas A&M has struggled in SEC play, defeating only Arkansas 34-7 at home, as expected given the Razorbacks' struggles this season.
It's hard to know how the Aggies will respond after beating The Citadel, while Alabama's offense has been borderline embarrassing and Texas A&M's defense has improved over the last two weeks, with the secondary now ranked 10th in passing yards allowed.
For Texas A&M to have any legitimate shot at an upset, starting quarterback Marcel Reed will need to hit his "layup throws," or high-percentage passes, and the running game, now led by sophomore Jamarion Morrow and freshman KJ Edwards, will need to average four or more yards per carry. Plus, more creative play-calling from first-year OC Holmon Wiggins.
Personally, I'll wait to release my prediction, but one of the more popular college football X accounts, CFB Home, nailed both of Alabama's last two game predictions and is predicting a 23-20 Texas A&M upset on Saturday.
If the Aggies win on Saturday, chaos will ensue, putting immense pressure on head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. Texas A&M vs. Alabama will kick off at 2:30 p.m. and will air on ABC.
